I was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. After college, I spent three years in the marketing department of AT&T. However, after being challenged to do an open-mic night at the local comedy club, I was bitten by the standup bug. I soon left the corporate world for a career in standup that would eventually take me to all 50 states, seven foreign countries, and a handful of national TV appearances.
By the mid-90’s, my wife and I started a family, and being on the road full time wasn’t very conducive to being the type of dad I wanted to be. I began a new career in the casino industry, first as a casino announcer, then in casino operations management, supervising all table games and poker rooms. My job expanded to include working as an instructor for a variety of training classes and producing a weekly employee newsletter. In addition, I also used my background in comedy to assist the marketing department with various projects. I was rewarded for these efforts by being named “Entertainer of the Year” for the entire brand in 1997. The decision to learn the gaming industry paid off, as I have been married for almost 26 years to my best friend, and together we have raised four great kids that are now embarking on their own successful journeys. I couldn’t be prouder of each one of them and the adults they have become.
As I continued working on comedy and writing projects, I was offered a staff writer position on the “Dilbert” show on the UPN network. Though I hated to leave the casino, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. After two seasons, our show was cancelled, and we made the decision to move back to Kansas City to raise our children around our extended family. I went to work managing the day-to-day operations of the poker room at another casino. After an enjoyable ten years, I was looking for a new challenge allowing me to return to my writing roots and offering more flexibility in both location and schedule.
I took the leap to full-time copywriting and haven’t regretted it for a single second. I’ve worked on everything from emails and landing pages to VSLs and blog posts for a variety of businesses. Though sports and sports betting make up most of my work, I’ve done projects for companies that run the gamut from health care to lawn service. I enjoy immersing myself in an industry and then using that knowledge to craft unique and memorable content that drives sales to new heights.
